Last year, a brilliant, confronting and realistic look at police life in Los Angeles was canceled but found a new home on TNT. The network decided to air the first season before airing new episodes, and so fans of the show Southland have waited a good ten months before finding out what happened to the cops and their families after the first season's surprising finale.
This is what went down in the season finale 'Derailed':
- Ben Sherman found his place in the police and dealt with his daddy-issues, but not before being dumped by his short-term girlfriend.
- Lydia was in a shocking situation when she was protecting a witness in her own home, leading to a gun fight. It ended with the girl being taken into witness protection, giving Lydia some resolvement.
- Sal gives a barbecue and is pleased to find his daughter Kimmy returns home.
- We see John with his assumed partner in his garden looking at the fireworks.
- Sammy and Tammi finally made peace.
- Meanwhile Russell and Dina are on their way to Sal's barbecue when Russell decides to invite the neighbors who have been fighting with each other all day. When he rings the doorbell, the front door opens with the man of the house firing two shots into Russell's chest.
Will Russell survive? Is Lydia going to get past this? Will we see more of John's personal life? The second season of Southland premieres tonight on TNT and though production already shut down, if ratings are high enough, this show might belong to the lucky few canceled network shows that were saved by cable.
