Suburgatory S01E01 - Pilot

The show is based form a very familiar concept but fails to exceed beyond that.
Suburgatory is an easy breeze in the way that you've already seen the story before and this re-telling is very easy to swallow. But even though it has some good jokes (the passive aggressive book reading), the show is a whole lot of the same. Think Mean Girls  meets The Stepford Wives.

Of course we have a quick-witted protagonist who takes the viewer into the plastic world of housewives and country clubs. We have a spoiled queen bee, a suspicious mother, a dad who doesn't understand and some supporting characters with no apparent reason for existing.
It doesn't make up for a whole lot of story and if anything, I'm not ready to watch another 'meet me halfway' story that includes the school bitch easing up, the mother actually being nice and the father continuing to be out of the loop.
That the show feels empty is in no way the fault of the fantastic cast which sees a lot of familiar faces but a pretty likable lead in Jane Levy.
I'm not sure if the show will develop into something steady but for now, just like the shows' location, it doesn't seem to a whole lot of substance.
