In what seems to be a way back to the Barney/Robin romance that was canned so suddenly earlier this season, this 'Of Course' offers up a story about a hot girl that won't sleep with Barney, a catchy song, another musical number and Jennifer Lopez.
Let's start with the latter. Jennifer Lopez is the third popstar who guest stars on How I Met Your Mother. Beautiful as ever, the latina from the Bronx plays a hot girl that gets involved in a story ultimately leading to Barney jumping into a river. How that turned out is for you to see, but the story itself is just another magnificent example of the concept of the show; a love story, in reversed. Because the alternative couple of the core five had entire season of possibilities before finally getting together only to break up abruptly, to dismay of many fans. Sure, we wanted Barney back as the ultimate single guy, but Robin certainly deserved more than that. For those who agree, this episode eases the pain as the focus lies on Robin who seemingly had a worse time after the break up than any close up previously showed.
It's a well deserved, well timed tribute to a couple that just wasn't. And it brings some sincerity to it that was always jokingly waved away by Barney.
For the fans who simply don't care, the episode has a lot more to offer than just some break-up pains. Some continueing jokes as only HIMYM can make them, a singing Ted (you thought the musical episode was all they got, right?) and a confronting book title for all single girls involving the word "sl*t". Yes, it's How I Met Your Mother at it's best. Incredibly funny, with a heart.
