Review: Grey's Anatomy S06E17 - Push

Relationships are being created, examined and put to the test on a weekly base on Grey's Anatomy, this week is no different, except perhaps that it was one of those episodes where everybody of this (perhaps way too big) ensemble drama had a proper place and role in the stories that were told. As if there might actually be some structure to the big entanglement of love, sex and medicine that is Seattle Grace.

In 'Push' we see Callie being really, really happy. Her and Arizona are on great terms and she's giving relationship advice out to everybody who seems to confide in her, dito with Arizona. They just have different goals in mind. Callie tells Sloan that Teddy (still following?) might be a good life-long partner while Arizona convinces Teddy she could use Sloan as a candy bar. Mark seems to really change and for the first time on the show, he seems to have a clue on where he's heading, doing it in his own exceptional way of course.
Meanwhile, men are budding heads when Owen and Webber are convinced they have the best solution for a woman who has a tumor the size of a football in her stomach. In between are Meredith and Cristina who scrub in and Derek who makes the final decision. Alliances are formed, broken and teams have each others back.
On a different note, Bailey is heading for her third date and all the expectations that come along with it. It's been a while since we saw Bailey this nervous about something, and though it is rare and uncharacaristic of her, it is nice to see her getting back into the dating scene, seeing her with a love interest that might actually work.
As always, these are just three of the many events that go on in Grey's Anatomy and for new viewers it's not recommended to jump in here. For example, there was a moment that could have been a real sister-bonding scene for Meredith and Lexie, but instead, Meredith just watched like she always did and Chyler Leigh could show how underused she was. Lexie has difficulties with facing Mark who seems to move on, after sleeping with Alex who's kind of intimidated by the bigger version of him, offering the comic relief of the night by just having weird looks. Mark really want to get it right with Teddy, who might still be hung up on Owen, who's now with Cristina, but might still have a thing for Teddy, luckily Meredith isn't going to let that pass easily. No, you really don't want to jump in here.

The power of Grey's Anatomy is it's ensemble. When done right, like in 'Push' it can be amazing to watch so many characters interact with so many of each other, and have different story lines, all dealt with in a perfect dose of drama, light hearted talk and some emotional break downs. You're head might spin when remembering who slept with who, but at least you know that everything is in transgression. Because nobody on this show can be really, really happy.
