How I Met Your Mother S07E03 - Ducky Tie

Listen up Oxford, we're replacing a saying in the English language. 'Don't judge a TV show by its season premiere.'
If anything, How I Met Your Mother proved it very well knows what it has, what makes it work and where it came from. With a classic "bet" episode, fans are treated with flashbacks that matter, a story that engages and the very premise of the show that's dealt with delicately.

Victoria, as a character or as a story, meant something at some time. The girl with the cupcakes wasn't just a potential Mother, she was also the skeptic take on the story. Her departure was realistic and moving. So when she showed up last week it felt much like a last resort to keep viewers' attention. But this week proved there was indeed a story to tell. Ted did feel guilty for what happened and Victoria didn't spend an entire year moping around Germany. But most of all, the chemistry was still there.
Meanwhile, the episode could've easily stuck with the dramatic story of Ted and fallen short. Instead Barney, Lily and Marshall were engaged in a very entertaining, but more importantly very memorable bet.  It is How I Met Your Mother in all of its glory. Bets, boobs and drama (couldn't figure a synonym with a "b"). It works and it's what brought me in all these years ago.
From Robin continuing the story, to Marshall figuring out the mystery, from Barney's awesomeness to the very predictable and not very interesting ending that leaves a too-often visited triangle up in the air. Yawn. But an awesome yawn indeed.
