Pan Am S01E01 - Pilot

The most ridiculous premises can work if you find the right balance. Pan Am definitely flies high but I'm not sure how it'll land.
I checked out the pilot in the eleventh hour because I needed something light. Now, Pan Am won't get you high but it is definitely easy to swallow. The show mixes a lot of good working concepts and it results in a rather surprising end result that has everything it needs, except that reason to stick around.

During the entire run of the episode I tried to find reasons not to like the show. But in all reality, there were none. The characters, though seemingly alike, work very well individually. The jealous sister who has to find her own groove, the new girl who tries to find her way, the do-gooder who did wrong and of course the veteran who knows it all. There's a lot of potential there. The stories are well balanced and interesting, not to mention not completely played out like, say, The PlayBoy Club.
But the best story is that of Bridget. Name dropping never occurs randomly on shows, let alone pilots, but this case was particularly well played. The entire episode had a lot going on yet slowly uncovered the veil on this mysterious girl who seemed to have a lot of answers. The final minutes of the show proved Pan Am was capable of a whole lot more than just flying around and landing on its feet.
No, I'm very sure this show can reach the skies. But before I hop on board, I need to see it fly first.
