Ringer S01E01 - Pilot

A descent start.
The expectations for Ringer weren't particularly high on my end. I hoped for a fast paced action-thriller that coincidentally starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, whom I adore more for her portrayal as Kathryn than Buffy.
Ringer provided a solid mix of both as Gellar gets to play two women tangled up in a web full of lies. The show starts of fairly calm which proves to be helpful as the plot continuously thickens. Every five minutes a new layer of lies is added to the show and it actually demanded my attention through out. Unfortunately, the pace never picked up. Sure, the twists kept coming and they managed to be interesting until the next one came along but I did miss the action in all of it.
That problem can be reduced to one single factor; main girl Bridget is not tough enough. She apologizes to everyone, tries to make everything right and in a seemingly never ending scheme she keeps quiet instead of playing along. It's not very engaging for a main character to be in this much trouble and not really understanding any of it. For Ringer to succeed Bridget must woman-up and try to figure things out rather than to take a back seat and see what comes up.
I wasn't blown away by Gellar's performance, perhaps also due to Bridget's calm character. The supporting cast however seems interesting enough to keep stories refreshing and dynamic. Though the writers have no comedy chops to speak of, the drama and the mystery is good enough. Consider me interested.
There's a slight chance I might tune in next week and if not, at least the pilot was an hour well spend.
