Up All Night S01E01 - Pilot

A descent comedy with well-liked stars and some nice jokes.
The premise of the show isn't really all that great. In fact, when it comes to comedy it's pretty worn out and doesn't really serve for a lot of potential. I'm still confused about the choice of title but those are minor details. Up All Night actually manages to work pretty well.

What stands out is that you're immediately sold on Reagan and Chris' love for Amy, which is vital. You're also pretty quickly convinced that, not only these two love each other, they also have been long enough together to be quite annoyed by each other and able to survive that. It makes up for some nice comedy though and sets up for a descent future this show can build in.
The sad part however is that the work-part of the show doesn't fit into that. Is this show about parents raising a baby or a mom juggling work and a family? Where does the best friend in? Ava is semi-fun. She makes up for some nice jokes and is an awesome sidekick but she's also not very likable. Me, as a viewer, am not looking forward to spending a whole lot of time with her, especially when I have to trade it for Arnett time. The show clearly hasn't found its identity yet but with such a stellar cast I have faith in it. For me, however, it doesn't stand out enough to watch on a weekly base. Probably because I can't relate to any of the characters. At all.
