Review: The Simpsons S21E14 - Postcards From The Wedge

Don't let the outdated spoof on The Jetsons fool you, this is easily the best episode of The Simpsons in years. Sure, there are millions of fans who are happy to disagree, but here's why I think that this episode, was truely magnificent...

'Postcards From The Wedge' does everything right. It offers up an intriguing story about Homer and Marge disagreeing on Bart making homework, resulting in a fight. In the twenty-one years this show has been on the air, it probably has been done before. I just wasn't there to see it (just like the pinata-opening, did it really take that long to think of a pinata-couch-gag?). And so in my fourth season watching The Simpsons this is the best episode I have seen. Because the main story might be thin and done before, there are so many sidetracks and jokes that halfway the episode you wonder how it is possible there's still time left. So much just happens, and none of it is boring. From Pokémon to Twitter, from free Wi-Fi at the church to Moe's express, the episode is full, up to the ceiling, of gags. Perhaps not always as funny, but certainly always as subtle and smart.
Every scene had meaning, references and throughout the episode there were so many of the iconic characters of Springfield that had moments of glory, you wonder how exactly is it possible they held this episode from being the 400th?
Because better than this, I haven't seen it. Smart, witty, moving for characters and just plain entertaining. I am completely dazzled by the quality of the episode and there's an off chance that this is just me, but for anyone who likes The Simpsons this is one to remember.
