Welcome to the club, the very competitive prime-time club. How long will you stay?
The Playboy Club is quite bad. But it definitely has the potential to become the guilty pleasure it so desperately tries to be. If, you know, it sticks around long enough.
Take a smoldering lead, a naive girl and all the aspects of a daytime soap and you've got this show. Even in it's 60's setting the show is very superficial, in every way.
None of the characters show a lot of layers. But with so many players there's room for potential. Only the Bunny mother immediately locks your vision and leads the way.
But even she doesn't have a whole lot to work with. Almost every story line is predictable and immediately worn out. The murder, the power struggles, it's all standard and easily boring.
The show invites you to an exclusive club that has nothing new to offer. There's room for improvement, but would you stay at a party that'll need weeks to get started? Exactly.
